John J. Mooney

From Madison Democrat 50th Anniversary
Published by the Madison Democrat, 1908

John J. Mooney

This popular young Democrat, of Monroe township, will oppose Sheriff M. E. Hummell for re-election. Mr. Mooney was born in Greene county but afterward moved to Clinton county where he lived for fifteen years and then came to Madison county three years since. He moved to Monroe township with his brothers and rented 523 acres of the Pratt land which he has since managed and farmed with them. Monroe township is a Republican township, yet Mr. Mooney was elected trustee by 35 majority over a strong opponent. He is 31 years of age and a good-looking bachelor. Mr. Mooney has the personality of a pleasing, competent man and would make Madison county an excellent sheriff.
